Rev. Goodwin Douglas during a civil rights demonstration in Farmville in July 1963
The Rev. Goodwin Douglas, who as a Farmville minister in the 1960s was involved in the local civil rights movement, will speak Tuesday, Feb. 2, at 7 p.m. in Molnar Recital Hall in Wygal.
Douglas' talk, part of African-American History Month, will be followed by a reception. As pastor of Beulah A.M.E. Church in Farmville from 1962 to 1965, he marched against racism and helped re-open the Prince Edward County schools on an integrated basis in 1964. He now lives in Beltsville, Md., and is a presiding elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church.
