The CBE is extremely proud of the recent accomplishments of its faculty and students:

  • Dr. Cheryl Adkins received the Southwest Academy of Management's 2010 Best Paper Award for Double-edged sword: The use of communication technology to manage the boundaries between work and home, co-authored with Sonya F. Premeaux of Nicholls State University. Earlier this year, Dr. Adkins' paper, Balancing work and family: A field study of multi-dimensional, multi-role work-family conflict, co-authored with Sonya Premeaux and Kevin Mossholder was a finalist (among the top 5) for the Rosabeth Moss Kanter Award for Excellence in Work-Family Research.
  • Ms. Dawn Peebles (MBA student) and Dr. Frank Bacon received a best paper award at the American Society of Business & Behavioral Sciences annual conference for their work, The Failure of IndyMac: A Test of Market Efficiency and Behavioral Challenge. Their paper will be published in a forthcoming issue of the ASBBS eJournal.
  • Mr. David Smiy (BSBA student) and Dr. Frank Bacon also received a best paper award at this same conference for their paper, The Debt and Dividend Decisions for Non-Stock Cooperatives: Pecking Order vs Trade-Off. Their paper will also be published in the ASBBS eJournal.
  • Dr. Bennie Waller and Dr. Ray Brastow, after receiving a best paper award earlier this year from the American Real Estate Society, continued their work on dual agency and presented their new work, Dual agency representation: A breeding ground for moral hazard, at the Southern Finance Association.
  • Dr. Glenn Dardick was appointed a fellow at the African Center for Cyberlaw and Cybercrime Prevention (ACCP), adding to his list of accomplishments in the field of digital forensics and cyber security. Dr. Dardick also serves as conference chair for the 4th International Conference on Cyberlaw, as director of the Association of Digital Forensics Security and Law, and as editor-in-chief of that organization's journal.
  • MBA students presented papers at various conferences this year, including Cory Nichols (Wordy or worthwhile: A study of real estate agent comments and perceived value/American Society of Business & Behavioral Sciences), Randy Sherrod (The effect of different types of exterior siding on home sales/Virginia Council of Graduate Schools Graduate Student Research Forum), and Louise Waller (Does gas price impact the marketing duration of residential real estate/Academic and Business Research Institute).
  • BSBA students also presented or had papers accepted at the American Society of Business & Behavioral Sciences conference, including Darrell Asbell and Dr. Frank Bacon (Insider trading: A test of market efficiency), and Brandon Caracciolo (Selling your house in 30 days: Is it good luck or moral hazard?). Carlos Garcia de Andoain Hidalgo and Dr. Frank Bacon's paper, The impact of stock split announcements on stock price: A test of market efficiency, was published in the Journal of Business and Behavioral Sciences.
  • Dr. William Brown's paper, Recent cases expand potential for obtaining innocent spouse relief, was published in Practical Tax Strategies.
  • Dr. John Gaskin's paper, Gender differences in response to written touch references in hospitality advertisements, co-authored with Dr. Vincent Magnini has been accepted for publication in Tourism Analysis.
  • Dr. James Haug presented "Adapting Library Workplaces to Enhance Collaborative Learning" at the EDUCAUSE Southeast Conference.
  • Dr. Steven Samaras' paper, The measurement of stakeholder salience: A strategy for the exploration of stakeholder theories, was accepted to the International Journal of Data Analysis Techniques and Strategies.
