Campus Recreation Goes Green
The new health and fitness center has been certified GOLD by Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.
The LEED certification is based on 6 categories:
- Sustainable sites (hardscapes, low water plants)
- Water efficiency (Waterless urinals, low water showerheads)
- Energy and atmosphere (High efficiency mechanical equipment)
- Materials and resources (Local manufacturers, recycling construction waste)
- Indoor environmental quality (Recycled building materials)
- Innovation and design process (skylights, solar panels)
LEED sets the standard for green buildings by utilizing state-of-the-art sustainable technology. The University saves $60,000 a year in energy expenses due to the fitness center's green design.
